WELL-BEING WEBSITES WE LOVE

The new state of being is well being, whether you’re at home, at work or at play. But there’s so much information out there, how do you find the gems in amongst the misinformation? Here are four of our favourite sites that offer authentic and useful insights, as well as brilliant shopping ideas, for everything from yoga and boxing retreats to meditation, positive thinking and nutrition. Read on to find out who they are and why we love them.

  • 1. THRIVE GLOBAL

    Thrive Global

Arianna Huffington first hit our radars as founder of online news portal Huffington Post. Now, after a breakdown followed by an epiphany, she’s resurfaced with a new vision for how we should be living. It’s not just about surviving, but rather, about thriving, she says, and her content and shopping platform Thrive Global offers tools – some gimmicky, some genuinely useful – plus sage advice and interesting articles to help you do just that.

  • 2. THE SLOW MODE

    The Slow Mode

Like Thrive Global, The Slow Mode arose as a result of burnout. Hong Kong-based founder Kaitie Manani had a successful resortwear business, Vamastyle, but serious adrenal fatigue led her to reconsider what she did for a living. The Slow Mode is the happy outcome: an ecommerce platform celebrating craftsmanship. Manani scours the world for clothing, accessories, homewares and more that are painstakingly handmade – and that also give back by supporting local communities or the planet.

The Slow Mode has just launched with a selection of beautiful designs, from dresses by the likes of Innika Choo to hand-made and –painted tableware by BTW Ceramics. It will also be home to wellness guides, with real people offering their take on being good to yourself and living well.

  • 3. GET THE GLOSS

    Get the Gloss

Longtime beauty journos Susannah Taylor and Sarah Vine started Get the Gloss a few years ago and it has since been a runaway success – winning awards and everything!

The British site offers a comprehensive look at all things health and beauty. If you want to know which eating plan to follow – the Ketogenic, 5:2, Bodhimaya or Warrior diet, to name just a few of the options out there – or how to meditate mindfully, or what to eat for breakfast (not a smoothie, it turns out), this is an informative place to start.

  • 4. COMPARERETREATS.COM

    CompareRetreats.com

This fresh-faced newcomer is a Hong Kong-based business; founded by Dervla Louli, who most Hongkongers will know from her days as editor-in-chief at Sassy, the site tells you where to retreat to, no matter who you are and what your interests.

Yoga bunny? CompareRetreats.com can list off 5 of the best places to go in India if you want to limber up. Fitness fanatic? CompareRetreats has all the intel on where to go if you want to surf, swim, kayak, box, climb mountains, and more.

Reviews, guides and personal interviews are part of the mix so far, and it’s still just a newbie on the scene – watch this space.
