We love the muted beauty this shade of green possesses. The colour first appeared in China in the Shang dynasty (circa 1600-1046 BC), on greenware, a type of pottery that is fired in a special way and that contains just the right amount of iron oxide to give it that very particular green shade. The similarity of this hue to jade is what has made celadon ceramics so popular in China for the last few thousand years.

Celadon – both the colour and the chinaware – is still popular today: there’s something cheerful about this grey-green-yellow, yet it’s still soft and easy on the eye.
